It was a kingdom that had been fighting monsters for so long that no one remembered peace. Victories, by either side, were accompanied by military and civilian losses and, afterwards, the looming threat of retaliation. Finally, the leaders of the two groups sat down and worked out their differences, bringing peace to the land. But these warring groups found peace...a touch boring. Hostilities rose anew, until the idea of a battle tournament was born. Both the heroes and the monsters could meet in an arena, facing off in battle as they had for generations, but within the confines of a set of civilized rules. The glory of battle returned, without civilian losses. The competition was fierce, and the annual battle came to be known as Monsters in the Middle
